This initiative encompasses the deployment of solar panels on the roofs of passenger terminals, as well as on airfield and cargo buildings managed by Changi Airport Group (CAG). Scheduled for completion in early 2025, this project will mark the establishment of Singapore's largest rooftop solar PV system within a single location.
This comes after an international panel of experts and business representatives in 2022 recommended that Changi Airport consider installing solar panels on open spaces within the airfield. CAG said on Feb 14 that it has appointed Keppel to design, build, own and operate the solar PV systems at Changi Airport for 25 years.
These systems will be installed on 40,000 m2 of turf outside the aircraft operations area at Changi Airport. Once operational, the rooftop and airfield PV systems are expected to generate enough energy to power more than 10,000 four-bedroom HDB flats annually.
